Women’s Swimming and Diving Gain Lead On Second Day Of Patriot Invitational

After trailing at the end of day one, the women’s swimming and diving team had amassed a 103 point lead over UNC-Wilmington with 688 points.

Sam Maccherola had another great day with a gold in the 200 free in 1:49.49. Freshman Amy Fay followed her with a third place finish in 1:53.73.

In the 100 breast the team went 1-3-4, with Tina Cantwell winning in 1:04.43, Tereza Kaplanova touching third, and Gaby Johnston touching fourth.

In the 100 fly the team touched 2-4-5 as Jennifer Esposito earned siver in 56.82, Lindsay Sherman touched fourth and Sarah Ryan touched fifth. All three swimmers times are in the top 10 in UMBC history with Ryan at 10th with 57.57.

Rebecca Godwin earned a bronze in the 400 IM with a time of 4:2.92.

In the 800 free relay, the “A” team of Fay, Esposito, Ashley Sippel, and Maccherola touched second in 7:32.53 while the “B” team of Godwin, Danielle Cruz, Tara Morrissette, and Ryan touched third in 7:42.55.

The 200 medley relay team of Kaplanova, Cantwell, Esporito, and Abbey McKennery finished htird in 1:46.55.

Finally, in the 100 back, Kaplanova recorded the fifth fasted time in UMBC history with a 58.22 finish. Kelsey Fitzpatrick finished sixth in 59.08 for the ninth fastest time.
