Even though the women’s basketball team lost the game, they have every reason to keep their heads high. I front of 1,604 people they played their hearts out kept it close, but eventually proved to just not be enough for the talented Virginia team.

With eight minutes to go UMBC carried a 48-47 lead, but Virginia just proved to be faster, stronger, and better and went on a 13-point run in the next four minutes for essentially put the game out of hand. But the fact that UMBC stayed in the game that long was impressive. Nobody gave them a change. If there were Vegas lines on women’s basketball games involving UMBC they would have been about a 30-point underdog.

In the game Michelle Kurowski lead all scorers with 21 points, adding seven rebounds. But it was Meghan Colabella who dominated the floor for UMBC. Thought it was a quite double-double, she scored 10 points with 12 rebounds and had a crowd roaring blocks. Meanwhile Erin Brown scored 11 points off the bench.

The problem for UMBC was free throws. IN a game that UMBC lost by 11 points, they missed 11 free throws. But they also turned the ball over 21 times.

But despite the loss they looked very good and played far above their expectations and look like they are going to be a team to watch out for this year.
