Richard Flemming Dismissed From Basketball Team
There have been multiple rumors going around that Richard Flemming has left the team to focus on academics. This rumor has been proven to only be half true. Richard Flemming is no longer with the team but the reason is not academics.
UMBC Sports Information Director Steve Levy stated: “Rich has been dismissed from the UMBC men’s basketball program for conduct detrimental to the team. He will remain in school at UMBC and is expected to earn his undergraduate degree, perhaps as early as December.”
He will keep his scholarship for another season, thus having UMBC be a man down next year. This is a big loss but there had to be good reason to get rid of him. After returning from his injury that kept him out for a few months, Flemming played very well off the bench. His best game came in the conference finals against Binghamton where he recorded his lone double-double of the season with a season high 14 points and season high 11 rebounds.
Flemming was expected to start at either the small or power forward position this season but his absence leaves one of the two vacant starting spots up for grabs.

Well that’s obnoxious! How can you get kicked off the team for some kind of misconduct and still keep your scholarship?

I know who Robbie Jackson is. I really like him…but they play different positions…and it really cuts on the big man depth. Jackson can’t play the entire game. Neither can Fry or Satchell or Wasco. Darryl Proctor was a dime a dozen and forwards rarely play that much and they fatigue fast. Flemming was athletic and I was much more comfortable with Fry Jackson and Flemming as out forwards than any other combination you can think of.

It doesnt matter if they play different positions, I believe Jackson will give a little more than what Flemming brought to the table. Its not going to be a big lost for UMBC that Flemming is gone. I know Robbie too, I been following him since he was playing for the Aberdeen in high school. UMBC needs a big presence in the middle and Robbie is going to fill it up. That was one of UMBC’s problem last year, a big man. Not to put Darryl down or nothing but he couldnt do it all and I didnt see Fry doing much. Monroe didnt even give Wasco a chance. I have a feeling and alot of other people think that this next team is going far! GO BIG DAWGS!!!

well my point was that Flemming out leaves a big whole on the team right now. I agree Robbie Jackson is going to be a huge addition for them but like I said. It’s Fry, Jackson, Flemming or Fry, Jackson, and anybody else.
Also, to say fry didn’t do much is definitely not true. He’s not an offensive threat, he never has been and he probably won’t be. He’ll get you points when you need it but he’s a great defender. He completely shut down every team inside during conference play. Notice that when he was out the opposing teams scored a lot less in the paint. Wasco didn’t get much of a chance because he just wasn’t in great shape. he’s not bad right now so he could see some time for his defense. But I do think Fry and Jackson teaming up inside will be very hard for teams to score on.
