Morgan Warrington and Toni DiRenzo Transfering From Women’s Soccer Team
Assistant Sports Information Director Tom Fenstermaker confirmed today that the women’s soccer team has lost two player due to transfer. Morgan Warrington will be transferring to Delaware and oni DiRenzo will decide where she will go in the next few days.
Needless to say these are two big hit but losing Warrington is extremely detrimental. She lead the team in goals last year with five and had a assist to go with it. She is a two time all conference player including an all-freshman team selection on defense. He was the team’s MVP the last two years and she will be missed. Basically a player of her caliber deserves a chance to be on a winning team and she felt that at UMBC she wouldn’t have had one.
DiRenzo started ever game last season at defense and was named to the All-Rookie team. She either has not decided on a team to transfer to or the team has not been released yet. Either way it is another road bump for the women’s soccer team that has had serious woes for quite some time.
Previews for the fall sports will be up in the next few weeks.
Richard Flemming Dismissed From Basketball Team
There have been multiple rumors going around that Richard Flemming has left the team to focus on academics. This rumor has been proven to only be half true. Richard Flemming is no longer with the team but the reason is not academics.
UMBC Sports Information Director Steve Levy stated: “Rich has been dismissed from the UMBC men’s basketball program for conduct detrimental to the team. He will remain in school at UMBC and is expected to earn his undergraduate degree, perhaps as early as December.”
He will keep his scholarship for another season, thus having UMBC be a man down next year. This is a big loss but there had to be good reason to get rid of him. After returning from his injury that kept him out for a few months, Flemming played very well off the bench. His best game came in the conference finals against Binghamton where he recorded his lone double-double of the season with a season high 14 points and season high 11 rebounds.
Flemming was expected to start at either the small or power forward position this season but his absence leaves one of the two vacant starting spots up for grabs.
